“The Stream 2 program has been one of LASU’s biggest scams”.
On Friday, November 15th, 2024, the management of Lagos State University announced its decision to scrap the Stream 2 Entrepreneurship Program for the 2024/2025 academic session. This announcement was made on the school’s official Twitter page.
“The Lagos State University has suspended admissions into the Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme for full-time regular students for the 2024/2025 academic session.”

Following this announcement by the school authorities, the news immediately gained traction amongst the student populace, driving different reactions and resentment. This piece is set to not just listen to students’ opinions, which is a “criticism”, but also balance them by stating the benefits of the program.
The Entrepreneurship Program, which was originally organized by the school management to empower the students with the necessary skills needed to sail through life, apart from the normal classroom activities, is, in fact, a “facade”, according to many LASuites. On a factual note, this piece can boldly say that many Stream 2 students were aided by the program in gaining admission into Lagos State University.
The Stream 2 program has been a lifesaver to many LASuites.This programme has saved a lot of aspirants from rejection. For a person who has sat for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and ends up with a low score, but is allowed to study his or her preferred course provided he or she applies for the Stream 2 Entrepreneurship Program and pays the sum of N151,000, which was later increased to N180,000 last year; this is a win-win situation, you pay more money, you get your desired course, or in worst case scenario, you are guaranteed admission into other courses in the university, which is still a solace.
Surprisingly, research carried out by LASU Conscience can boldly state that there are a great number of students who willingly chose the Stream 2 program based on the entrepreneurship program it offers ranging from writing and publishing, make-up, woodwork, web development and a host of others. Interestingly, many can count the number of times they have attended lectures on their chosen entrepreneurship program. Some entrepreneurship programs barely have facilitators or inexperienced facilitators, and practical courses lack equipment, while some require a ridiculous amount of money to pursue.
According to our interview with a Stream 2 student of the Lagos State University, Epe campus, he described the program as a money-making enterprise for the school management.
“Personally, the Stream 2 program has been one of LASU’s biggest scams because, firstly, it is only taking place in Ojo, and EPE students are given the choice of stream 2 when there’s no availability of the lectures on the LASU Epe campus” .
He said.
According to a Stream 2 student from the Ojo campus, he said nothing is being taught to them after their 100lvl.
Another Stream 2 student of “writing and publishing” in the Ojo campus described the program as “unhelpful and time-wasting.”
In an interview with a Stream 2 student learning make-up, she stated that the projects are ridiculously expensive.
“I would be glad if they removed it because it’s time wasting and not all the facilitators are professionals, most times the classes are boring. I’ve not learnt anything so far. The time they fix for classes is ridiculous; imagine fixing a boring class for 4-6 when my brain should be resting. Again, the money we spend on the project is ridiculously expensive. We are already paying 150k for school fees. The least they can do is to provide materials we’d use to learn. It doesn’t have to be a personal thing everyone can take home. It can just be useful during the ENT class.”
She lamented.
Based on the above criticisms from students of the Entrepreneurship Program, it is safe to say that the school management is apt in their decision to scrap the program for the 2024/2025 academic session.
According to the management, the reason for scrapping the program is:
“The need to reorganize the Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme to enhance its relevance and better align it with industry demands and global practices and standards; and The necessity to update the curriculum to include skills that improve students’ employability and career prospects in the evolving job market.”
This means that the school is aware that the program is not functioning properly and has taken the wise decision of suspending the program to reorganize it.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back was:
“Please note that all candidates admitted for the 2024/2025 academic session will now pursue the Full-Time Degree Programme without the Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme (Stream 2) and will only be required to pay the fees applicable to this programme”.
Returning students who have been on the Stream 2 Full-Time Degree with Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme (presently in 200, 300, 400, and 500 levels) will continue the programme until graduation.” This decision by the school has led to online outrage by many staylites who feel the need for the school to totally abolish the program since “suspending it has confirmed that the program wasn’t effective in the first place.”
In conclusion, LASU Conscience suggests that the school management looks into the online outrage among the Stream 2 staylites and ensures that they are offered the value for the money being paid.
