It was a whole two-month semester break. Almost everyone is excited to be back on campus. Freshers who could not wait to leave home and finally say to whoever cares to know, “Oh, I’m in school”, are now strolling the street of LASU with the utmost pride. This is normal and it’s understandable. Also, staylites who just wanted to leave all the chores, home dramas, and most importantly, the brokenness that comes with being at home are now back to the life of a baller.
Well, if you’re a staylite, we’re happy to have you here, but this one is specially for our freshers. Consider this our way of saying, Welcome to LASU. Yeah, we can still say that in the second week of resumption.
One of the biggest concerns of every student is food, and it is extraordinarily inconvenient for freshers as you’re still struggling with settling into the 8:00am-6:00pm class system, and fitting into the LASU community. But don’t fret. LASU Conscience is here for you! In this post, We will be taking you through the top 7 best food vendors in LASU, and to prove to you that we’re on your side, we’ll even let you in on the pocket-friendly spots!
Stay tuned, guys; you’re about to get some premium food gist. In no particular order, below are the top 7 spots to get good food on the LASU campus.
- Kena’s Kitchen
Kena’s kitchen is located at AJ Market, just by the road that leads to the Sports Center before getting to the Faculty of Sciences. If you’re looking for a delicacy that will have your taste buds singing for joy, Kena’s Kitchen is the place for you. They offer an interesting menu, but the burger sold there is a personal favourite. Now, the food is quite pricey, but freshers are generally known to be ballers; especially in the first few weeks of resumption. With a budget of 2500-5000, you can walk in to grab a snack or a meal of your liking. That shouldn’t be a big deal.
- Flavours
This is located at the Faculty of Law. Flavours is the ideal school canteen that caters both to the broke and the rich. The food here is sold in portions, and there is a wide variety offered ranging from jollof rice to fried rice, to beans, and several side dishes. More importantly, the food here tastes pretty good. You would be getting good food without having to break the bank. And you can also decide to splurge your wealth to get luxury. It’s a win-win situation for both parties. By the way, the canteen also offers a bit of entertainment in the background.
Side Note: You get to see amazing law students pass by.
3. Iya Costain restaurant
You’ll find this one at Eco market, Faculty of Arts. The best part about this place is that every single dish slaps! If you’re looking for the homey rice and fried stew taste, you’ll find it here. If it’s fresh fish stew, you’ll get it here. Should we talk about their bread and beans or even swallow? You’re definitely in the right place. I’m particularly partial to the Amala and ogufe(goat meat) sold here, but every other dish served is just as good. The pricing is also fair. Just like the previous restaurant, you’re getting good food without having to break the bank. The food here is slightly spicier(more peppery). If you like spicy foods, this should be your best spot.
4. Hugo Fries
Hugo Fries is another great spot for great food. Like Kena’s, they offer a fancy menu including pasta, shawarma, fries, and more. They’re located at Eco market, Faculty of Arts. There’s also a conducive sitting environment for customers. Talk about convenience. Again, the food is a little pricey, but nothing particularly unaffordable. Still, if you’re not looking to spend much, you might want to look further down the list.
5. Iya Dayo Food Canteen
How are you even a Lasuite if you haven’t heard of Iya Dayo? The fact that you’re in 100L isn’t an excuse.
Although this canteen is located at the Faculty of Arts, you’re likely to hear people mention it across all faculties in the LASU, Ojo Campus. Like many others, this canteen also offers a variety of dishes regardless of what your preference is. Rest assured that you’ll get good food at a fair price. I’ve heard a couple of people say that the food here is not delicious enough, but It’s a pretty good spot. To top it off, a number of students have found love at this particular restaurant. Sounds unbelievable, but with the crowd, anything is possible.

- Chapel Canteen (Mummy Obe)
How can I finish this compilation without mentioning this serene environment? It would be a great disservice. Are you looking for homemade food with a very awesome pricing? Then this is for you.
Mummy as she is fondly called, makes amazing homemade foods which delights the taste buds. The menu ranges from jollof spag to rice and even bread/beans. I dare say you won’t find a better option in the whole of LASU. Very very pocket friendly, and the customer service is top notch. My fellow foodie, you might have just struck gold with this option.
More importantly, it’s peaceful and cool because of the abundance of trees. For someone who doesn’t do well with crowds, this is a good spot to try out.
- Iya Dayo, Students Arcade.
The students’ arcade is a pretty interesting place to be. I’m very sure you’d agree with me. With all the eye-catching stuff you’ll find in there, you might wonder where to find good food. There are many things to catch there and I assure you that food is just 5% of it. But before I get carried away, let’s talk about food!
Well, Iya Dayo’s jollof rice is a favourite of mine. You’re sure to find an interesting variety of food there, and while you can find cheaper, the food is also quite affordable. Although affordable and Arcade don’t really go hand in hand, this is to burst your bubble that this is different.
To my freshers, this is just a few out of the numerous canteens on campus. There are definitely a lot of places to get amazing and tasty delicacies. Not to mention the student Arcade. I just hope you can use this as a map before you get to know your way around LASU.
