Welcome back to school, Lasuites!!!
The just concluded holiday is unarguably the longest time that students of Lagos State University have had to be away from school in the last three sessions.
Now, there have been several questions regarding the reason for this long break, and while it is not the aim of this article to provide an answer to this question, we would like to add to the growing list of questions.
What was the holiday like for you? Were you tired of home and eager to resume? Or did time fly so quickly that you started wondering if the holiday was really 2-month long? Or are you a part of those who cannot relate to the long holiday because they were either busy with their teaching practice, internship, or SIWES?

Meanwhile, isn’t it interesting that while this nice little break was on, the streets of LASU continued to bubble as a series of activities were seen to take place on the school premises? From FASU Games to the ENT exhibition program to TEDxLASU, students within and outside the Lagos State University had a flurry of activities that brought them back to school during the holidays. Not forgetting the Chief Heartbreak Officer of LASU, of course: LIDC! While men lay down and slept at night, LIDC came like a thief in the night and shook everyone virulently.
So let’s take them one after the other, shall we?
- FASU Games
Even before the holiday, talks of FASU Games were already on the lips of several Lasuites. The knowledge that LASU, alongside UNILAG, was hosting an international sporting event such as this was sending thrills across the population.
The obvious renovations of facilities including but not limited to the sports centre, the love garden at the faculty of Sciences, and several other raised anticipation. When LASU finally called for volunteers for the games, several students showed interest and volunteered during the event.
The games, which were a week long featured participants from different African countries, with LASU eventually emerging 2nd place winner. If you were anywhere around school during this week, then you definitely saw first-hand the bubbly atmosphere in the school premises, and the busyness of staff and students in ensuring the success of the event.
- LIDC
While we were still reeling from the highs of FASU Games, LIDC struck! What made the feeling even worse was the fact that almost all results were released at once!
For the scholars, it was probably a time to breathe a sigh of relief and finally call it a session, but for the rest of us, it was a time to think about our plan B in case this school thing no later work.
Although school was on break, students were trooping in to submit letters upon letters of complaint. I don’t know how LIDC manages it every time, but in this LASU, nobody badder than!!!!
- ENT 302 Exhibition.
The announcement for this one came rather suddenly. With only three day’s notice, one would be surprised at the turnout of attendees at the event; however, with the ENT 302 exhibitions generally known to constitute 30% of the overall results, the reason for this is understandable.
Interestingly, the exhibition program was as interesting as it was insightful. From cake making to finger foods, writing and publishing, fisheries, event planning and decoration. Various ENT programs showcased their products for grading and later, for sale.
Funnily enough, the ENT 302 results were out even before most students left the exhibition grounds, suggesting that this time around, the results were, in fact, 100% based on the CBT exam that had been attempted by students a month earlier.
TEDx LASU
Did you attend TEDxLASU? The publicity for this event raised a lot of hope, and the event itself did not disappoint. Seasoned with power-packed speakers, TEDx LASU, themed Bloom, set out to restructure the mind of the average young person into believing that he could be anything if only he sets his goal right, maximizes the opportunities presented to him, and diligently pursues this goal.
LASU Conscience interviewed some of the speakers at this event, and all we can say is, we were in the same room as visionary leaders with the intention to see as many young people bloom into their full potential as possible.
