
The Senate of Lagos State University (LASU), elected Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics of the University on Monday, 27th of January 2025.
Professor Oseni Taiwo emerged as the winner in the election over Professor Maruf Suruqat Animashaun, Director of LASU Museum and Chairman of the LASU Independence Indigeneship Verification Committee ( IIVC ), with a decisive 198 – 2 margin.
Prof Oseni is the first indigenous Professor of philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at Lagos State University (LASU). He is a member of the Philosophical Association of Nigeria (PAN).
He currently holds the position of Director of the Directorate of Special Intervention and Coordinator, LASU Ventures.
He has authored and co-authored over 60 scientific papers and journal articles, including over 20 chapters of contributions to books. He is the editor of the book “Karl Popper and Africa: Knowledge, politics and Development” published by Springer in 2021.
He has won several academic awards and grants across the globe. Professor Oseni will assume office as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, on Thursday, 30th January 2025, succeeding Professor Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, whose tenure ends on Wednesday, 29th January 2025.
