LASU STUDENTS EMERGE WINNERS OF THE LEADCITY INTERVASITY DEDATE

The Lagos State University Debate Society ( LSUDS ) emerges winner at the Lead City InterVarsity Debate Competition on Friday, 4th April, 2025 at Lead City University, Ibadan,Oyo State.

The Competition themed “Voice Out: Dare To Debate” was hosted by Lead City Voices at Adeline Hall, the Main Auditorium of the University, featuring ten participating schools.

The LASU Debate Society was proudly represented by three Speakers, Saheed Sunday a 400 level student of department of English, Adedeji Ngbede Aderounmu, a 400 level student of the department of Religion and Peace Studies and Abdulquadri Ajeniya, a student of Faculty of Law who emerged as the best Speaker of the Competition, winning a brand new Infinix Hot 50i Smartphone.

The competition started on Tuesday 2nd of April and ends Friday. It comprises of three rounds: the preliminary, semi final and final round which was an impromptu with thirty minutes preparation time, where Lasu went head to head with Redeemers University.

LASU won the sum of 250,000 naira, Lead City University won 150,000 naira as the First runner up and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH ) won 100,000 naira as the Second runner up.

The speakers also received gift items from Infinix, alongside personal certificates and medals in recognition of their outstanding performances.

Additionally, an institutional award was presented to LASU, further cementing the university’s reputation for excellence in debate.

Ajeniya said bringing the win home after coming second last year feels surreal and serves as a reminder that time never is a constraint if the drive continues to live

He also added that the win is a reminder that the better can always happen.

“This win also means that whatever I did previously, I could do it again and this time even better, this win means that the dream team; Temitope Bakare, Oladipupo Ramadan, Temiloluwa Bolawole, Saheed Sunday, Aderounmu Adedeji and myself did a great job”, he asserted.
